We have a beautiful sunny and calm day with low 20's for a temp. Perfect day for skiing! We have 7km of frozen granular surface. We should be getting plenty of snow tonight and tomorrow.

We have 7km of freshly groomed trails. Geneva Loop, Tote Road, Anne's, and Zapolsky have been tilled to a frozen granular surface. Skiing will be fast! The track is filling with snow as I write this, so will improve with time.
We've brought back Ladies Day!! Every Wednesday ladies will get half price ticket ($6.00) and free hearty soup.

Come ski or snowshoe for the wildlife. Ruffed grouse seem to be in abundance this season. Moose sightings are not uncommon. They have been bedding down on Jeff's Trail lately.

We have 45 Km open, 17K groomed and 28K ungroomed backcountry trails. Snowshoers are welcome on all ungroomed trails. Some groomed trails still have thin cover, but are very skiable. Good reports Saturday and Sunday from skiers that were out on the trails.

We received 5" of new snow over the last 24 hours and are expecting 2-3" more today. Tote is groomed for classic and skate, with a packed powder surface. Geneva Bog and Zapolsky are groomed for skate with some classic track, both with thin cover, but todays snow should help smooth out the rough areas on both trails. Our groomers will be opening up more trails today.

Come join us- hot soup, bagels, snacks and cocoa are served up in the yurt daily!

Its snowing hard outside of the yurt as I write. We're expecting 6 to 10 inches of new snow. We plan on opening more groomed trails tomorrow if we get some accumulation.

Good Skiing

Tote Road trail is hanging in there. There are some thin spots but most of the 3.6km out and back is in good shape.
We are open daily from 9:00 to 4:00. We have hot soup, bagels, healthy snacks, hot and cold drinks in the Yurt.
Have you considered winter hiking? We have a brand new single track trail that goes out to Picnic Point on Saddleback Lake. There are fantastic views of Saddleback mountain and a picnic table at the end of the trail. The loop including the spur trail to Picnic Point takes 1 1/2 hours total.

The Trails Center just got 2 plus inches of new snow! We will have Tote Road trail open (3.6km out and back). There will be reduced pricing on day tickets.
Saturday is Winter Trails Day. We are offering a free day pass, rental, and group lesson to 10 skiers. Group lesson starts at 10:00am. Please call and leave a message or email us if you would like to participate.
Sunday is Maine Day. All Maine residents are offered reduced ticket pricing.

Back to Rock Skiing

I just Skied Tote Road trail and its back up to rock skiing status. We did pack it down with the YTS. It should set up nicely with the cold temps. We got just a little over an inch of snow. Rocks are exposed for the most part. Icy base. I would wait till this afternoon to try skating on Tote.
We may get a couple more inches in the next few days which will improve the skiing greatly.
The Yurt is not open. Please ski with caution. Very little cell coverage. Donations appreciated at kiosk attached to front deck of Yurt.

Still waiting for enough snow to groom as we welcome the new year. People have been coming out and trail walking this holiday week. Remember to grab a trail map at the kiosk attached to our deck. Bring your ski poles along. My Nordic walking friends tell me you burn 10% more calories using your ski poles.
I wish you all the best for 2012 and I hope we will all be skiing soon here at the Trails Center.

Will not be opening tomorrow the 26th. I skied Tote yesterday and its real rough. Rock skiers please take caution. There are damaging rocks just under 1 inch of fresh snow. Watch your speed!!

Delay In Opening

Rain and freezing rain hit us hard last night. Their calling for snow on Friday, but not sure how much we'll get in the mountains.
Good news! The new single track snowshoe trail out to picnic point on Saddleback lake is complete!! It will be signed soon and ready for snowshoeing by the next big snow storm.
Our new opening date is Monday, Dec. 26.

Rain Effects Trails

Sorry for the delay in this update. Tote Road trail was hit pretty hard with the rains from last night. Thinner base and slush underneath. Not recommended for skiing.

We Still Have Skiing!

Its been raining at the Trails Center this afternoon. Tote Road trail is holding up OK. It was groomed with our Piston Bully 100 yesterday and it looked great. We're expecting 1 to 3 inches of snow tomorrow and cooler temps.
We plan on opening Friday December 23. I'll continue to report on current conditions of the trails in the mean time. So come up for some free skiing!

New Snowshoe Trail

We are currently working on a new snowshoe trail. It will be a loop starting at the yurt. You go down the Lake Trail to the lake, hang a left on new single track which will take you to the Geneva Trail. There will also be a spur trail going to Picnic Point. Not sure if we will complete all of the trail this season. We'll give it our best shot and keep you posted.

We Have Skiing!!

Tote Road has set up nicely. I just skated out to the junction of Pipeline trail (2 km) which was groomed yesterday. The skiing is pretty good. There are some icy spots but easy to ski around. No set track. Please use caution. The Trails Center is not open, so please do not ski alone and there is no cell phone coverage. If you think the skiing was worth the trip. Please leave a donation at the kiosk attached to the deck.

First Grooming of the Season!!

We received 6 to 8 inches of snow yesterday. Today we packed down Tote Road to Bridge trail and Geneva trail. Our groomers tell me that we only need a few more inches of snow on Tote to open it up for skiing. We hope to be open by Dec. 17. We're all hoping for more snow in the coming days. Check back for current updates.

We're busy, busy, busy getting ready for the TD Bank Rangeley Lakes Loppet on Saturday. The snow we got this past weekend is fantastic and we are grooming the Loppet course already to get it to be the best ever for your skiing pleasure.

We'll have lots of soups and cookies for the hungry racers and even some pretty nice prizes. Join the touring class for the no-stress version of the 25k course.

It's a might blustery out there today. Now's the perfect time to come ski our protected trails at the Rangeley Lakes Trails Center. Beats freezing on a chair lift!
